DVLA clamp cars, they have the power and WILL clamp your untaxed vehicle. They WILL issue you with a release fee penalty charge and they WILL fine you. As a last resort they are authorised to and WILL destroy your car! The DVLA can't be reasoned with or bribed, and they are ruthless to the bone. Why? Because they are acting within the Laws when it comes to untaxed cars, vans and motorbikes.
It dosen't stop there. If you find yourself clamped by DVLA, firstly to get the clamp removed from your vehicle you have to pay a release fee of £100 plus. If you intend on keeping your vehicle to drive it on the road, you will need to re-tax it before DVLA will release the clamp. You have to go to the issuing depot, pay the release fee, and then either have a new tax disc or a SORN document issued by DVLA.
It still dosen't stop there. A new Law was passed on June 20th this year stating that it is illegal to keep an uninsured car, van or motorbike unless the owner applies for permission to keep it off road. Anyone without insurance who does not have a SORN could be fined £1,000 or have their vehicle destroyed - even if it is never used.
Our advice to you is this: If the road tax on your vehicle has expired or is about to expire and you intend to keep the vehicle on the road for whatever reason, get a SORN. Don't risk the fines, don't think that DVLA won't clamp you and fine you because THEY WILL!
